The building originates from the fourteenth century.
Originally the cult was addressed to the Soldier San Martino, patron of the Franco-Merovingians, from the fifteenth century the cult of Santa Maria Maddalena prevailed.
In the 15th century the church passed from the Querini to the Moro family. The new owners immediately started the restoration of the semi-destroyed building. To symbolize the building's sign of belonging to the family, they had their noble coat of arms frescoed on the facade. In 1543 they commissioned the painter Jacopo da Bassano (1510-1592) to produce the altarpiece for the main altar representing the meeting of Mary Magdalene with Jesus.
The Moro family remained owners until the 19th century, enjoying the right of patronage.
The interior of the building consists of a single nave with six side chapels. The crests of the Querini and Moro families are repeated on the apse. In the second half of the 1700s the choir was built above the entrance door of the church, where the precious organ made by Francesco Dacci still stands today.
The second important restoration took place during the nineteenth century, during which the main altar was finally completed, the two side altars of the presbytery were rebuilt in marble and the external facade was restored.
Further restoration and expansion works were carried out during the early 1900s.
From 1927 the parish passed from the diocese of Treviso to that of Venice.
In 1943 a tempera painting, 50 meters wide, was created on the ceiling by the Mirese painter Beppi Spolaor (1910-1950), in which the Magdalene in the garden of Christ was depicted surrounded by the guardian angel, the winged demon, the Spirit Saint and the Eternal Father.
The bell tower still retains the structural elements that originally characterized it. The structure is made with a square plan and surmounted by a conical spire on an octagonal base, decorated with brick tiles
