Monumenti commemorativi e celebrativi

Giulio Fioravanti.

Commemorative and celebratory monuments
There are many monuments in the Mirese area, important for their significant historical-cultural testimony.
There are works that commemorate the war dead, such as the monument located in the hamlet of Gambarare, a few meters from the Duomo, erected in 1922. Among the makeshift materials used for the realization of this work there is a trachyte block with an inscription from Roman times: “FAB / PATR. / CAPRIA P. F. ", belonging to the funeral monument built by the Roman Fabia tribe and received during the excavations relating to the ancient monastery of Sant'Ilario.
Another great commemorative work is the Parco delle Rimembranze, in via Silvio Trentin, dedicated to the fallen of the First World War, inaugurated in 1925. The entrance is characterized by the large marble arch whose facade facing the street has two sides large epigraphs. The left epigraph fully reproduces the proclamation of Vittorio Emanuele III of May 24, 1915, dedicated to the army and navy; the one on the right shows the last war bulletin launched by General Diaz on the evening of November 4, 1918. The park was designed with paths, plants and over two hundred columns marked inside with the name of each fallen.
Of notable elegance is the monument located near the central bridge of Mira, a few meters from the municipal square. This is a stone with a flag-carrying antenna, consisting of a trachyte base with a square marble block and a bronze medallion depicting the “good king”: Umberto I of Savoy. The bas-relief of the medallion was made by the well-known sculptor Girolamo Bortotti, also evident from the signature left on the work.
The entire artifact was commissioned in April 1901, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the king's death, by the "Remembrance" committee set up in Mira and having Cav. Giulio Fioravanti as president.
