Giare e Dogaletto, oasi di quiete a ridosso della laguna
A sud della statale Romea, nella parte di territorio che confina con la laguna, sono situate due piccole località: Giare e Dogaletto. Giare si snoda su un lungo rettilineo che dalla Romea si inoltra nella campagna. Sulla strada, numerosi edifici rurali, testimonianza dell’antica vocazione agricola di questa zona. I piccoli proprietari, un tempo dediti alla produzione cerealicola, si sono progressivamente orientati verso l’orticoltura, sia in serra che all’aperto.
Accanto alle attività familiari sorgono anche due grandi aziende agricole: la Miana Serraglia e la Pra. Oltre di esse, ecco la laguna, con i suoi canali, i filari di canne, le nuove costruzioni per il ricovero delle imbarcazioni di pescatori e cacciatori e appassionati di birdwatching. Dogaletto, da “Doge”, che suggerisce l’antica appartenenza alla Repubblica di Venezia: l’edificio più interessante è la casa detta del doganiere, costruzione cinquecentesca destinata ad abitazione per l’addetto alla riscossione dei pedaggi dovuti dalle barche che transitavano sul vicino canale Bondante. Finito l’abitato, lungo Via Bastie, si raggiunge la Romea: nei campi che si attraversano forse sorgeva duemila anni fa il villaggio romano di Abondia, come testimoniano numerosi reperti qui ritrovati.
To the south of the Romea state road, in the part of the territory that borders the lagoon, there are two small towns: Giare and Dogaletto. Giare winds on a long straight that from Romea enters the countryside. On the road, numerous rural buildings, evidence of the ancient agricultural vocation of this area. The small owners, once dedicated to cereal production, have gradually turned to horticulture, both in greenhouses and outdoors.
The flagship of this production is the asparagus, which grows here powered by one of the most suitable soil to give it qualities and flavors.
Alongside the family businesses there are also two large farms: Miana Serraglia and Pra. Beyond them, here is the lagoon, with its canals, the rows of reeds, the new buildings for the shelter of the boats of fishermen and hunters and birdwatchers. Dogaletto, from "Doge", which suggests the ancient belonging to the Republic of Venice: the most interesting building is the house known as the customs officer, a sixteenth-century building intended as a residence for the collector of tolls due from the boats that passed on the nearby Bondante canal. After the town, along Via Bastie, you reach the Romea: in the fields that you cross perhaps the Roman village of Abondia stood two thousand years ago, as evidenced by numerous finds found here.
